President's Message

WARC is a club of members in the Amateur Radio Service. I think the key word here is SERVICE. As radio amateurs, we accept this commitment to service to justify the free use of the radio spectrum generously allocated to us by the FCC. Our club takes this commitment seriously, especially when it come to our own community. Warminster recognizes this and rewards this service by supporting our club in numerous ways such as providing a facility for our meetings and a tower for our repeater. The rewards are well worth the efforts in this relationship and are very much appreciated. This club functions for its members and by its members. This means devoting time and effort to the organization and the running of the club in addition to reaping the benefits. If we all just pay our dues and reap the benefits our club will cease to exist. The fact that WARC continues to grow and prosper demonstrates the dedication of those who devote themselves to making WARC the best amateur radio club in the area. You know who you are and I applaud your efforts. It is unfair though, to always depend on the same individuals to shoulder the load - as they say, many hands make the work light. We are now in need of members to fill key positions to maintain our forward momentum. Our secretary and Feedback editor currently have work responsibilities that are making it difficult to serve the club at this time and we have officer elections coming up in January. Why not consider taking a turn at filling a position. I will make sure you get all the help and support you need.

Upcoming is the Pennsylvania QSO Party, one of the two club participation contests. Club participation means that the individual scores of all participating club members are compiled together and submitted as a club score. This is a fun contest you can operate even with limited station capabilities, even working club members on 2m FM will add to the score and support the club. If you make 100 contacts you will be awarded a mug individualized with your call sign! Look for more information in this issue.

We have two public service events coming up in October. Read on for more information and contact George, N3HBT, if you can participate.

As of September 1, 2000, the FCC RF safety rules are in full force. You are responsible for your station's compliance. Look for more details in this issue.

I'm looking forward to seeing you at the next meeting.

73,
Rocky, N3FKR

October Public Service Events
In October the club is requested to help out with two public service events. On Monday, October 9, the Warminster Parks and Recreation department will be holding their "hole in one" golf outing at the 5 Ponds
golf course on Street road in Warminster. 10 operators will be needed for this event, which will run from 7:30 am until about 1:00 pm. A hot meal will be served after the outing. This event will benefit the
Warminster Parks and Recreation department, which has given the club space to hold our VE testing sessions and our meetings.

On Saturday, October 14, a 5K run will be held at the Craven Hall on Street road and Newtown road in Warminster. The event will run from 9:00 am until about 12:00 pm and will benefit the Craven Hall. I will need 12 operators to staff this event.

If you can help out with either of the above public service events, please contact George Brechmann N3HBT at n3hbt@juno.com or call 215-443-5656.
